Term 4 Extra Credit

LAST DAY EXTRA CREDIT AND OR LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED IS WED., MAY 29th

Uncle Tom’s Cabin
8th Grade Honors Extra Credit Reading
*Congratulations on tackling extra reading!  You will never regret trying to read important literature!

Taking on Uncle Tom's Cabin is a great commitment, but if you feel interested, motivated, or are a voracious reader, you might want to consider 4th term's extra credit option (to supplement Uncle Tom's Cabin).  Read and annotate to enhance your knowledge of this time period and of individual perspectives. You will have until the end of May to complete this.

To receive your points you may annotate the text and show me your well done annotations, or you may write a 1-2 page double-spaced response paper on the part that had the most impact for you.  Be sure it is well-written and has your original thoughts along with evidence.

Narrative of the Life of FrederickDouglas

Extra Credit

We Could Be Heroes Exhibition
Does art imitate life, or does life imitate art?  Come explore these questions and visit the exhibit currently open at the MOA on BYU's campus.  The "We Could be Heroes" exhibit ties perfectly into our study of the hero's cycle earlier in the year.  Countless themes we explore in our class appear fun and creative expressions.  Coco and I will be at the MOA on Friday, January 11th from 5pm - 7pm.  If you come and see us and chat about what you see and think about this exhibit you will get some extra credit before term 2 ends.  If you can't make it at this day or time, but would like to attend, go at your own convenience, pick up a postcard of the exhibit and come talk to me about what you saw and how it connects to our studies!

More about the exhibit here.
Directions to the MOA here.

*Remember the last day for late work and extra credit is January 11th.

Thanksgiving Break Extra Credit

As you feast and relax Thanksgiving weekend, you may want to also consume some good books! One could be the well known Holocaust diary, Anne Frank. We have her words because she wrote them down, and hers is one voice that represents millions. If you'd like to spend some of your extra time getting some extra points, here's how.

1. Check out a copy of Anne Frank from me (Ms. LaFortune) before you leave for break on Tuesday.

2. Read the excerpts listed on this study guide.

3. Reflect and write your thoughts on the same study guide.

4. For other interesting facts and a tour of her annex, see the right column on our blog under "Holocaust Resources".

5. Bring back Monday, November 26th.

Fall Break Extra Credit

While you're basking in the fall autumn air, why not do some extra credit?  Below are some options.

1.       Mark your calendar for October 20th...it's the annual Book Festival at the SLC Main Library! http://utahbookfestival.com/  Extra credit for all those who attend! Write a one page double spaced reflection on what you experienced and thought about.

2. Any entry for Reflections, "The Magic of a Moment" will receive extra credit.  Duplicate your entry, or if it is a piece of art you may take a picture to show me.
